The newly approved Federal College of Education, Iwo, in the State of Osun will in no distant time commence academic activities.
This is just as the Federal Government has earmarked N1.3bn for its takeoff in the 2022 Budget.
A member of the Appropriation and Tertiary Education Committee in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yinusa Akintola Amobi stated this while fielding questions from newsmen on Candid Platform, organised by the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday.
He noted that as of the lead movers of the motion that saw to the establishment of the tertiary institution, no effort will be spared to see to its successful take-off.
Hon. Amobi said the 9th Assembly has taken the position of President Muhammadu Buhari on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill stressing that lawmakers will harmonise the opinion of Nigerians when they resume from the Christmas and New Year break.
“I was at the forefront of the Bill becoming Law. Now that it has been established, I will not rest. Yes, I have done more than enough. This year, we have allocated 1.3 billion naira for the takeoff of the institution. I will see to this and ensure that we get the school up and running.
“We have said it often times that the 9th National Assembly is never a rubber-stamp of the executive. Although, the President has declined assent into the bill but we have not shifted our position. We received his letter when we were about going for a break and this will top our deliberations when with resume.”
Asked on true federalism and a change of the constitution, the lawmaker said, “true federalism or state control of its resources is good but this has to follow a due process and referendum. Nigeria constitution is not a flexible one that can easily be changed totally but the necessary amendments to make it more suitable is what we are doing in accordance with the rules.”
On the current security challenges in the country, Hon. Amobi described it as a spill-over of terrorism which started about a decade ago in the North and called on everyone to be vigilant and join forces with security agencies to nip the act in the bud.
Hon. Amobi revealed that in less than three years as a representative, he has trained over 556 constituents in various skills, empowered over 556 constituents with commensurate capital and loan, offered training qualification credentials to over 556 constituents.
“I have organised more than 6 or 7 training programmes for the Youths in Lagos to account for their effective training. I have also embarked on other several empowerment programmes.
Amobi lauded the commitment of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to the development of Osun, stressing that the APC will be re-jigged to pave way for its success in the 2022 governorship election in the State of Osun.
“Oyetola is a good administrator and a wonderful Governor. He has been committed to doing the will of the people. He has been up and doing in infrastructure and the welfare of the workers and the citizenry. We are not making a mistake in demanding for his re-election. We are all crisis managers. What you see in our party is just a political play. It will soon be a thing of the past,” the Federal Lawmaker concluded.
