The Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Adebayo Bamire, has asserted that insecurity, high cost of fertilizer among others, are to blame for the country’s continued increase in food prices.
He emphasized the need for large food production, In order to address the rise in food prices and food security.
He stated this on Tuesday, annual stakeholders’ meeting of the African Agri-food Knowledge Transfer Partnership Project (AAKTP), held at the OAU conference center, Ile-ife.
Bamire, Professor of Agricultural Economics, claims that food insufficiency is currently a problem nationwide due to insecurity, high fertilizer costs, and other Issues, which has resulted in an increase in food prices.
Bamire said, “The University is vital to achieving massive food production due to presence of personnel and knowledge to achieve the target. Here at OAU, we are evolving the industry by involving in processing and harnessing the value chain to meet the need of our people. If we get the support of financial institutions we can extend our services to the state, regional and international level.”
