FG Increases Corps Members Allowance
The Federal Government has increased the allowance of Corps members in the country to N77,000.
Caroline Embu, spokesperson for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), announced on Wednesday that the corps members’ allowance has been increased, aligning with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
This change follows a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta on September 25, 2024.
“Prior to this, the Director General, NYSC Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had paid an advocacy visit to the Chairman in which he solicited for a robust welfare package for Corps Members.
โThe NYSC Boss is thankful to the Federal Government for the timely gesture and is optimistic that it will not only bring much needed succour to the Corps Members, but also boost their morale and motivate them to do even more, in their service to the nation,โ Embu said.
Prior to the recent increase, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members received a monthly allowance of โฆ33,000.

This amount was a result of a 2020 increase from โฆ19,800, implemented after the signing of the โฆ30,000 minimum wage bill.
Fast forward to late July 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed a new minimum wage bill into law, concluding months of negotiations between government authorities, labour unions, and the private sector.
The National Minimum Wage was thereby increased from โฆ30,000 to โฆ70,000, following the National Assembly’s passage of the Minimum Wage Act, 2019.
