FG Moves To Rescue Naira And Other Newspaper Headlines Today

Stories and reports on the proceedings of the Supreme Court on appeals against the election of President Bola Tinubu, and moves to rescue the naira from further depreciation, fill the front pages of Nigerian newspapers today, October 24.

The Punch reports that John Okoro, chairman of the supreme court panel hearing the appeals against the election of Tinubu, said Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), must prove the allegation of certificate forgery levelled against the president beyond reasonable doubt. The newspaper reports the federal government as saying that the country is expecting about $10bn inflows in the nearest term, which would help to clear foreign exchange backlog and stabilise the naira.

The newspaper says the federal government is set to establish the humanitarian and poverty alleviation trust fund.

The Guardian reports that the delay of the federal government and the proposed alteration of critical aspects of the host community fragment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) may create fresh hostility against the government and oil companies in the Niger Delta region. The newspaper says the supreme court has affirmed Ahmed Ododo as the APC governorship candidate in Kogi state.
