FG Signs Federal University Of Health Sciences Ila-Orangun Establishment Act

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, the Federal University of Health Sciences Ila-Orangun (Establishment) Act.

Other universities signed into law are the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (Establishment) Act, the Chartered Institute of Development Studies and Administration of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (Establishment) Act, and the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria Act, respectively.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senate, Senator Babajide Omoworare.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government in June, 2021, announced the establishment of four specialised universities, out of which two are universities of medical sciences.

During the announcement, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, through the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Sonny Ochono, said the huge gap in the doctor-patient ratio, as well as in medical research and production of pharmaceutical products, compels the need for the establishment of the universities.

He revealed that the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences, will help to reduce the amount of money Nigerians spend on medical tourism abroad.

Aside the one sited in Ila-Orangun, State of Osun, the other in its category is situated in Azare in Bauchi State.

The other two specialized universities are in the category of University of Technology and are sited in Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states.
