The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has bashed the federal government over the recently released modified governing council lists for federal universities.

The Union said the composition of the new list was worse than the first one, adding that education in the country cannot be run like that.

Osun Defender reports that the FG came out with a new list after the first one received condemnation with the new list containing names of notable politicians in Nigeria.

In the new list, the pioneer chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Bisi Akande was made the governing council chairman of the University of Ibadan.

ASUU National President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, in an interview with Tribune, said a majority of those on the new lists are retired politicians.

He said, “The composition of the new list is even worse than the previous one. Go and look at the list again: the majority of the council members are retired politicians.

“What you see is honourable, honourable, honourable. What does that tell us? That is how terrible the thing has become.

“We can’t run our universities like this. It will not work. We don’t need to play partisan politics again with our universities if we truly want to move forward as a country.”
