FG Urged To Declare State Of Emergency On Malaria
The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to subsidise malaria drugs for citizens if they cannot be made free at all government health centres.
The call was made on Thursday by the Chairman of the House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, Amobi Godwin Ogar, at the inaugural meeting of the committee.
The lawmaker noted that the rate of malaria infections in the country continues to increase.
He said many Nigerians are affected by the disease but unable to afford drugs.
The committee chairman also expressed concern about the proliferation of fake and sub-standard malaria drugs in Nigeria, promising that the committee would identify their sources and impose penalties on them.
He warned that producers and distributors of fake and sub-standard malaria drugs will have no hiding place under their watch.
