On Thursday 9th March 2017, the Federal Government warned Nigerian to pay attention to unhealthy smuggled frozen fish especially Tilapia being circulated in Nigeria.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri while addressing journalists said the smugglers were undermining the efforts of backward integration which the government was pursing to make Nigeria self sufficient in local fish production.

The government said that adequate measures have been taken to ensure that the fish does not go into circulation, some of these measures includes the inspection of cool rooms all over the federation.

“In the light of the above, the ministry is using this medium to warn those involved, colluding, aiding and abetting in these nefarious activities to stop or face the full wrath of the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
