A viral video circulating on social media has captured the Acting Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Chris Najomo, making a controversial statement that the funds allocated to the agency by the Federal Government belong to him and his staff.

The video was shared on Tuesday by an X user and tech enthusiast, Tonye Barcanista, who raised concerns over Najomo’s remarks.

Barcanista further alleged that Najomo, who is said to be an uncle to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has been referring to himself as the substantive DG of the NCAA despite ongoing controversies surrounding his acting appointment.

Critics have accused Najomo of failing to prioritise airline safety, with incidents of aircraft tyre losses becoming a recurring issue under his leadership.

According to Barcanista, the NCAA boss has not sanctioned any airline despite numerous reports of flight delays and safety concerns.

“Despite the recent concern in the aviation industry, particularly as it concerns safety, the Acting DG, Chris Najomo, has been caught in a viral video telling his staff that the money released to the agency is for him and his staff to spend,” Barcanista wrote.

He also pointed out that under Najomo’s leadership, a helicopter crash occurred, with the investigative report allegedly indicting the NCAA.

The frequent loss of aircraft tyres on runways has further raised doubts about the agency’s effectiveness in ensuring aviation safety.

The most controversial aspect of the video, however, remains Najomo’s remark about the disbursement of public funds, which has sparked outrage among Nigerians.

Many have taken to social media to demand accountability, questioning the NCAA’s role in ensuring aviation safety and transparency in fund management.
