Fintiri Imposes 24-Hour Curfew After Deadly Militia Attacks In Adamawa

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State following deadly attacks by armed militias that left scores of residents feared dead.

Local sources said the assailants stormed multiple villages, killing residents and burying some victims hurriedly as panic spread across the communities.

The violence is linked to longstanding ethnic tensions between Bachama and Tchobo-speaking communities, whose clashes in recent years have repeatedly plunged the area into unrest.

The crisis had previously drawn national attention after Nigerian Army troops, deployed to restore peace, allegedly opened fire on unarmed women protesters during earlier confrontations in Lamurde.

In a statement on Sunday, Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the curfew became necessary following the fresh breakdown of law and order.

“Government views these disturbances as unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly,” the governor said, warning that anyone violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The curfew will remain in effect until further notice, while security agencies have been ordered to maintain peace in the troubled communities.

Residents were urged to comply fully with the directive and to provide useful information to security forces to help restore calm.

“The government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order,” Fintiri added, stressing the state’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
