Five Arrested As Rival Cult Groups Clash In Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists following a violent clash between rival groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Badagry.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspects aged between 28 and 43 years were apprehended during a coordinated police operation that restored calm to the affected communities.
“Police responded to a distress call around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a clash between rival cult groups in Onireke and Isashi. The swift intervention of tactical teams and detectives prevented further bloodshed,” Adebisi said.
According to the spokesperson, three injured victims were rescued and taken to the Badagry General Hospital for treatment. Sadly, one of the victims was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Adebisi added that police operatives conducted a raid in the area, leading to the arrest of five suspects allegedly involved in the attack and killing.
Recovered items from the suspects included one locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other dangerous weapons.
“The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded,” she stated.
The spokesperson further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other cult members still at large, with intensified patrols and surveillance to prevent possible reprisal attacks in the area.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift response, reaffirming the command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and violent crimes across Lagos State.
Jimoh also urged residents to remain law-abiding and security-conscious, and to promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
