Five Dead, Others Injured As Commercial Bus Rams Into Tricycle In Osogbo

At least five people were feared dead, while others are said to be injured in an early morning accident that occurred at the front of WOCDIF Events Centre, Ring Road, Osogbo, on Tuesday.

Osun Defender learnt that the accident which was fatal involved a commercial bus with the registration number of Abuja – RBC15ZN and tricycle, which are now damaged beyond repair.

Preliminary information has it that four school children and the driver of the tricycle died on the spot.

It was gathered that security operatives, marketers and other road users around the area, joined in the rescue efforts.

An eyewitness told Osun Defender that: “The 18 passenger bus coming from the stadium left its lane to crush the Keke Napep (Tricycle) and Okada (Motorcycle) coming from the Lameco end i.e. on the other side right in front of Aurora Event Centre. I can confirm to you that no fewer than seven people including school children are now dead. It is sad.”

As at the time of filing this report, five people are said to be seriously injured and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Other sources gave the number of those dead in the accident as more than seven as at 11am this morning.

Osun Defender sighted the presence of security agencies and men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), who have taken over the control of the situation.

The cause of the accident and the level of damage were also yet to be ascertained. The police is also yet to speak on the matter.
