FLASH: Ibadan High Chiefs Boycott Elevation Coronation Despite Makinde’s Insistence
The newly elevated Ibadan High Chiefs on Friday boycotted their coronation ceremony despite Governor Seyi Makinde’s insistence that the event would go ahead as planned.
Their absence was evident at the venue, as the seats reserved for them remained empty during the ceremony held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The event was organised to formally present staff of office to the chiefs following their elevation to the status of crown-wearing Obas.
Among those scheduled for the coronation were Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who was elevated to Ekaarun Balogun, while Bolaji Adewoyin and Kola Babalola were set to assume the titles of Ekeerin Olubadan and Ekaarun Olubadan, respectively.

Images from the event monitored by OSUN DEFENDER showed the absence of the trio, who reports earlier in the day had suggested will not attend the event.
The Oyo State Government had earlier maintained that the coronation would proceed despite reports that the affected chiefs were displeased with the short notice given for the event.
Sources close to the traditional institution had also hinted that some of the chiefs were out of town, while others were dissatisfied with the circumstances surrounding the coronation.
Despite their absence, the Oyo state Deputy Governor, Barr Bayo Lawal, pronounced them as Kings, confirming their elevation, while Fuji musician, Taye Currency, entertained guests at the ceremony.
