There was pandemonium on Friday at Oke-Kura Correctional Centre, Ilorin, Kwara State capital, when an inmate seized the rifle of a warder, shot and wounded a roadside vulcanizer close to the facility.
The incident which occurred at about 8.00 a.m, caused panic and anxiety as residents in the area scampered for safety while the ugly drama lasted.
Osun Defender gathered that the inmate who shot the vulcanizer was detained at the ‘C’ Division Police Station, Isale-Ojo, in Ilorin metropolis, while the injured victim, who was shot in the stomach was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
According to an eyewitness, some prison inmates were being led out of the facility when the culprit seized the rifle of the officer and fired some shots which hit the unidentified vulcanizer.
