Some residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, were terrified as there was reportedly an explosion in parts of the state capital.
This happened some minutes before 8:00 p.m.
There were also videos online that showed a dusty cloud and burning houses and cars.
According to information gathered, the quake shook the School of Nursing, University College Hospital and reportedly shattered all the windows.
Some residents of Ologuneru, Owalla, Isokan, Ekerin, Eleyele and parts of Apete also said they felt the shaking.
A student of the University who spoke with a journalist on the phone “It is true. We all heard the sound and it was very loud. The cloud is cloudy with smoke. it happened at Bodija and we in the UI area could see the smoke. Even those at Sango and Ojo heard the sound. In fact, we are all in a room scared for our life”
An X user, @WillieWinehouse tweeted, “A f***ing bomb just exploded in Ibadan! My entire house and street are in ruins!! What is going on!!”
Meanwhile, the Oyo State government has enjoined residents of the state to be calm, following the massive explosion that rocked Ibadan, the state capital.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, all security service chiefs including para-military chiefs and fire operatives have been deployed by the governor to mitigate the effects of the explosion.
“Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.”
“There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and are in full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident.”
“His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after,” the statement said.

Some of the affected places which felt the impact of the explosion included, Ologuneru, Owalla, Isokan, Ekerin, Eleyele, and parts of Apete.
