Fleeing Armed Robbers Ram Into Truck, One Dies
A five-man armed robbery gang who were on the run after an operation on Wednesday met their Waterloo after their vehicle collided with a truck at Ada George Road Nkpolu Oroworukwo in the Mile 3 axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt.
The gang members were reported to have robbed a shop along the Ada George/Chinda axis
The private guard attached to the warehouse where sealed engine oil is sold, according to an eye witness, raised the alarm which attracted passers-by and the police.
The eyewitness said, “So the armed robbers were speeding off and on sighting a police patrol van that was chasing them, they tried to make a detour through Rumukokwu from Ada George Road when they rammed into a stationary truck leading to the death of one of them.”
Also, a viral video of the incident l showed a member of the gang behind the wheel lifeless, while two others lay critically injured on the floor and were apprehended by the police.
The eyewitness, however, said two of the gang members escaped.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Iringe-Koko stated, “Yes I can confirm the incident. They were fleeing from a crime scene with their vehicle and rammed into a truck. They were taken to the hospital following their injuries.
“One of them was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The two other suspects are in critical condition and receiving treatment. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the other gang members that escaped to make them face justice.”
