Florida Airport To Be Renamed After US President Donald Trump
An airport in Florida is set to be renamed after US President Donald Trump after the state’s legislature approved a bill proposing the change on Thursday.
The Republican-led legislature passed the measure to redesignate Palm Beach International Airport as the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” according to state records.
The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to sign it into law.
The airport, located in Palm Beach, is just minutes away from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
However, the renaming will also require approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before it can take effect.
If approved, it would become the latest institution to bear Trump’s name.
In December, the president’s appointed board at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted to rename the venue the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”
That same month, the State Department added Trump’s name to the United States Institute of Peace.
Trump has also reportedly sought to rename New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Washington Dulles International Airport after himself, though those efforts were unsuccessful.
The Treasury Department has confirmed that draft designs have been prepared for a commemorative $1 coin featuring Trump’s image, despite laws prohibiting the depiction of a sitting or living president on US currency.
On Thursday, a large blue banner bearing Trump’s face was draped across the headquarters of the Justice Department, an agency traditionally viewed as independent from political influence.
