Fmr. Pres. Jonathan Says Pres. Buhari Is A Failure And Other Interesting Stories From The Papers This Morning

The former President of the federation Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday told President Muhammadu Buhari his administration has failed in governance.

According to this headline story by New Telegraph Newspaper, Buhari’s govt has failed – Jonathan, Mr. Jonathan who was voted out whilst seeking re-election in 2015 for a lacklustre performance claimed his party the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP which ruled for 16 years, has fared better in performance when compared to the All Progressives Congress, APC which had only used two years in power.

However, OSUN DEFENDER newspaper took another dimension on its front page with the rider; Youth plan massive protest in Osogbo. Apparently, a few communities in Osogbo the State of Osun capital has been left without power supply for a few weeks now. The paper said crisis was imminent in some communities of Olorunda Local Government as youth in the area have vowed to embark on massive protest against the perpetual blackout affecting the communities which has lasted over 48 days.

Meanwhile, if everything goes as planned, Mr. John Odigie-Oyegun will soon cease to be the chairman of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC. THE NATION’s headline reveals 17 governors plot APC chair Oyegun’s removal. Recall the party had remained without a board of trustees since it was inaugurated more than two years ago. The governors are angry that Mr. Oyegun runs the party like his personal estate, only engaging seven of his colleagues from the National Working Committee in running the party.

The Punch today headlines its paper with an economic story stating the FG has revealed Nigerians may repay $5.5bn loan for 20 years.

It was noted that the Federal Government said its external borrowing plan, for which it is seeking the approval of the National Assembly, will take Nigeria between five years and 30 years to repay. Still towing the line of economic stories, the NIGERIAN TRIBUNE reported that the Senate has resolves to probe Paris Club refunds to governors.

Tribune reports that the Senate on Thursday resolved to probe how the Paris Club Refunds and other bailout funds to state governors by President Muhammadu Buhari were approved. In fact, it was noted that Pres. Buhari may be impeached if it was found out that he disbursed several funds to the states in the name of Bailout, Paris Club loan refund etc. without the prior approval of the National Assembly.

Senator Anyawu who raised a motion on the topic on the floor of the Nigerian Senate asked precisely that he would want to know who approved the said appropriations for Mr. President. The Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, Sen. Bukola Saraki however pleaded with his colleagues for an extensive debate to be carried out on the motion on the next legislative day, Tuesday 24th October, 2017. Who knows, this could be the beginning of an impeachment move on President Buhari.

In another interesting read, the INDEPENDENT reports, FG Set to Name Treasury Looters. It was noted that, Abukabar Malami (SAN), Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has directed all relevant agencies to compile documents on names of treasury looters which will soon be made public.
