A 74-year-old former surgeon, Joel Le Scouarnec, is set to face trial on February 24 for allegedly committing horrific crimes against nearly 300 former patients, mostly children, over a period of 25 years.

The allegations against Le Scouarnec, who worked at various medical institutions in western France, are nothing short of shocking.

He is accused of raping or sexually assaulting his victims, many of whom were unconscious at the time of the alleged attacks.

The average age of the victims is 11, with the youngest being just one year old and the oldest 70.

Le Scouarnec has been charged with 111 counts of rape and 189 counts of sexual assault, with prosecutors alleging that he abused his position of trust as a doctor to commit these heinous crimes.

The investigation into Le Scouarnec’s actions began in 2017, after a six-year-old girl accused him of rape.

Further investigation uncovered allegations of assault against his nieces and a four-year-old patient, leading to his arrest and conviction in 2020.

However, it was only after his arrest that the full extent of Le Scouarnec’s alleged crimes came to light.

Investigators found a trove of disturbing evidence, including dozens of dolls used as sex toys and over 300,000 pornographic images.

Le Scouarnec’s trial, which is expected to last four months, will be held in public, although testimony from victims who were minors at the time of the alleged attacks will be heard behind closed doors.

If convicted, Le Scouarnec faces up to 20 years in prison.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised questions about how Le Scouarnec was able to continue practicing medicine despite previous convictions and allegations of misconduct.
