Nigerian football fans will be taken back memory lane when the second edition of the All Stars Cup begins in Lagos. Among former internationals listed for the competition are Peter Rufai, Nduka Ugbade and Henry Nwosu.
The tournament is a rare opportunity for stars of yesteryears to once again dazzle football fans every Saturday and Sunday at the Nigeria Ports Authority Sports ground, off Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.
Former Green Eagles midfielder, who is the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, Henry Nwosu said at a press conference yesterday that the All Stars tournament, aimed at promoting friendship among retired players, will kick off officially on September 9, 2017.
Nwosu, a member of the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winning Green Eagles squad, said the tournament involving 24 teams is open for sponsorship. “Surely, the All Stars Cup is to promote unity and business contact for the 24 All Stars teams. Unlike last year when we had 16 teams, 24 teams are competing for this time around.
“There will be prizes for the top three teams in the competition to be officiated by top referees.
“We will also ensure that there is adequate medical and security personnel at the NPA Sports ground from kick off date to the final day,” Nwosu said while pleading with sports loving individuals and corporate groups to give moral and financial support to the All Stars Football Cup that has Peter Rufai as its Ambassador.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee, Wole Eliphus has promised an exciting All Stars Football tournament.
Following the draws held at the SWAN Secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos, Group A has FKJ, PACO, Egan and Saint Mary’s All Stars Teams. Group B comprises Arsenal, Enomi, Apapa/Ajegunle, Otto, LASPOTECH and Firm All Stars.
