A former Nigerian minister for internal affairs and commerce, Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf, is dead.
Details about his death is still sketchy at the moment but reliable sources confirmed that he has passed away at 78.
Senator Yusuf represented the Jigawa South West constituency as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, first elected in April 1999 and subsequently reelected in April 2003.
He served as the minister for internal affairs in 1979 and the minister for commerce in 1982. Notably, as minister for commerce, he was instrumental in curbing the influx of imported goods into Nigeria, which was significantly impacting the nation’s foreign reserves.
In his home state of Jigawa, he was bestowed with the honorary title of “Sardaunan Dutse.”
He is also the recipient of the national honour – Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON).
