The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abass has appointed a former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Asimiyu Alarape, as his senior legislative aide.
The development however generated some mild reactions as social commentators believed that the appointment is a demotion for Alarape, who was formerly the number three citizen of the pacesetter state.
Osun Defender gathered that the appointment was on the recommendation of Akeem Adeyemi, a serving third-term member representing Oyo federal constituency.
Findings revealed that Alarape was Speaker of the Oyo Assembly between November 1999 and 2003. 20 years after between 2019 and 2023, he was minority leader of the same legislature.
Recently, a similar situation occurred in Osun when the former Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Femi Popoola who became the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, a situation seen in Nigerian politics as demotion and retrogression in one’s political career.
