Four Policemen Feared Killed As Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community

Four policemen were feared killed on Sunday at Udei community in Benue State, by suspected herdsmen who attacked the community.

A local source told Channels Television‘s correspondent that the policemen responded to a distress call by the community.

Upon their arrival, they asked the community youths to pull back as there were no signs of attack on the community.

The policemen, it was gathered, then fired warning shots into the air, only to be returned by suspected herdsmen who laid ambush planning to attack the community. Four policemen were feared killed on the spot.

“At about 3 pm, when the mobile police personnel arrived in response to our distress call, we told them the armed herdsmen were lurking at Udei community but they didn’t believe us and asked us to pull back,” the source stated.

“The police fired warning shots into the air, and immediately the herdsmen opened fire, killing four policemen on the spot.”

The attack caused panic which led to residents fleeing from Udei, which is a few kilometres from Yelwata where suspected herdsmen killed scores of villagers on June 13, 2025.

Some of the residents of Ortese community, down to Daudu community fled to the road amid the heavy exchange of firepower between the joint security services led by the Army and the invaders.
