Four persons have been remanded in prison custody by an Osogbo magistrate court presided over by Magistrate Mary Awodele for armed robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of dangerous weapons.
The accused persons were Ojo Ayobami, 21, Isaac Awe Timileyin, 18, Rotimi Adedeji, 39, and Segun Adelabi, 26.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on the 18th of April, 2017 at exactly 9:30pm.
The charge sheet revealed that the accused persons and others at large at the Corpers’ Lodge area, Dada Estate, Osogbo conspired to commit Armed Robbery and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under section 6 (b) and section (i) of the robbery and fire arms (special provisions) Act cap RII Vol. 14 laws of federation of Nigeria, 2004.
It also disclosed that the accused persons did armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Adekanmi Taiwo Uthman of his Toyota Camry car with registration number APP 780 DB, one Infinix Hot Phone, two eye glasses, seat cover, a wallet containing school identity card of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, his driving license, voter’s card, three ATM cards of First bank, Wema bank, G.T Bank and document of the vehicle, the total valued N1.185 million and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1(2) (a and b) of the Robbery and firearms (special provisions) Act cap RII Vol. 14 laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
It also disclosed that the accused persons attempted to murder Adekanmi by stabbing him with broken bottle on his head and right hand, just as they were also in unlawful possession of one locally made single barrel and one live cartridge in which they could not give satisfactory account and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 516 and section 320 (i) of Osun Penal Code, Section 27 and Section 1 Act Cap RII vol. 14 of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The defense counsel for the first and third accused persons, Okobe Najite pleaded that the court should grant the accused persons bail.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mary Awodele rejected the bail application and remanded the accused persons in prison custody.
She then adjourns the case till 24th of November, 2017 for hearing.
