Fubara Appoints Ex-Factional Speaker, Ehie As Chief Of Staff
Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly appointed the immediate-past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, as his new Chief of Staff.
Osun Defender reports that Ehie who is loyal to the Governor had on Sunday night resigned his position as Speaker and also vacated his seat as member representing Ahoada-East Constituency 2 in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
His notice of resignation was contained in a letter dated 29th December 2023 and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
Though the lawmaker did not give any reason for his resignation, he, thanked his colleagues and constituents for the privilege of serving (with) them.
Recall that Edison Ehie was confirmed by a High Court Sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital as the authentic Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly.
Edison Ehie is one of the four lawmakers who backed the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the face-off between him and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
According to a report by Leadership Newspaper, the ex-factional speaker will replace the Chief of Staff, Hon. Chidi Amadi, who is a kinsman to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
