Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured Rivers State residents that his administration will continue to prioritise their welfare following his reinstatement after a six-month suspension.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, shortly after his return to the state.

Fubara, who was warmly received by jubilant crowds at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, expressed gratitude for the massive turnout.

“I know everyone wants to hear something from me. In fact, you expected it when I landed at the airport,” he said.

“Let me first of all appreciate the wonderful people of Rivers State. I’m really humbled by what I saw at the airport. I was briefed on some photographs of what happened here yesterday. That reception really humbled me.

“It showed love, confidence and solidarity. I want to say that it is not just the celebration, the massive reception by the number of people who came out to celebrate, but the display and reaffirmation of the bond between this government and the people that we are serving.

“I want to assure you that we will by the grace of God, continue to do those things that have made you people love us. I want to appreciate everyone and to say that we love you but God loves you more.

“We are going to address the state officially by 6pm and in that broadcast, we will appreciate everyone that brought normalcy to this state,” he stated.

His return comes two days after President Bola Tinubu announced the end of the controversial emergency rule imposed on Rivers State since March 18, 2025, following a constitutional impasse between the governor and the House of Assembly.

The suspension of Fubara’s government, which many residents had described as unpopular, deepened the political crisis that stemmed from his fallout with his predecessor and political ally, Nyesom Wike.

Videos and photos circulating online showed jubilant supporters thronging the Brick House, the official seat of power, to welcome the governor back to office.
