Fubara Dismisses Allegations Of Insecurity In Rivers State

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has condemned what he described as a deliberate campaign of misinformation aimed at portraying the state as unsafe.

Speaking on Sunday night at the grand finale of the Python Golf Club’s 6th Edition Chief Ikenna Okafor 2025 Pro-Amateur Golf Championship in Port Harcourt, Fubara reassured that Rivers State remains peaceful and open for business, tourism, and major events.

The statement was released on Monday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

The governor’s remarks come in the wake of recent media reports on insecurity, including cult-related killings in the state.

Last week, the Rivers State Police Command announced the arrest of ten members of a notorious cult group terrorising the Doubu axis of Port Harcourt and its environs, according to spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko.

Fubara described the media narratives as “engineered, exaggerated, and politically motivated,” pointing to the large turnout of visitors from across Africa as evidence of the state’s safety.

“More than half of the things you read in the media are not true. Worse things have happened in other states, but because they manage their media, people don’t read about them. In our case, they say anything to portray us in a bad light,” he said.

The governor acknowledged that earlier political tensions caused about six months of disruption but noted that peace has since returned, allowing security agencies to operate effectively.

He praised the joint security team for their “wonderful” performance and highlighted the normalcy experienced by visitors during the tournament, who moved freely and enjoyed the city without incident.

“Your presence signifies only one thing: that Rivers State is safe, contrary to what we hear and read,” Fubara said.

He pledged continued government support for the Python Golf Club competition, including the revival of the Governor’s Cup tournament, and promised assistance to enhance the club’s facilities.
