Following the sudden rise in the price of fuel across the country and the scarcity of petrol, residents of Osun State have resorted to trekking.
This is as transportation fares have further gone up.
Motorists have also abandoned their vehicles because of the scarcity of petrol, and the high cost of fuel.
It was observed that hundreds of commuters were trekking long distances due to the scarcity of vehicles and commercial motorcycles in many parts of the state.
This situation also affected students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Monday, as they were spotted trekking from the campus to town due to the unavailability of buses.
Osun Defender reporter who visited petrol stations on Tuesday morning reports that the product is sold above N750 per litre in many stations.

The fuel scarcity has also brought about extreme black market prices, with fuel going as high as N2000/litre in some places in the state.
A resident, Mr. Orasakin Abdullahi, said: “I bought fuel on Tuesday morning for N750 at Poplat Filling Station at Lagere in Ile Ife. I was still at the filling station when I heard that there had been an increment in the price of fuel. So, I have parked my bike for now. My problem is that transport fare is also not affordable.”
Osun Defender recalls that the Osun State Government Taskforce on Petroleum Price Monitoring has threatened to sanction owners of petrol stations across the state who are found guilty of hoarding petroleum products to create artificial scarcity.
The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), also assured that the queues at filling stations will phase out by Wednesday, May 1st.
