Since its inception in 1956, the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, presented annually by France Football magazine, has celebrated the best-performing footballers from around the world.

While the list of winners has often been dominated by European and South American players, Nigerian footballers have also carved out a place for themselves among the nominees for this coveted prize.

Following the latest announcement on Wednesday, Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman has become the latest player from the nation to join the ranks of Ballon d’Or nominees.

Lookman’s outstanding performances for both club and country during the past season earned him this remarkable recognition, adding to Nigeria’s rich history in global football.
