Funke Akindele Paid Me Just N90k After Working On Her Set For One Month — Ijoba Lande
Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Ijoba Lande, has revealed that he was paid a meagre N90,000 after spending a full month working on a production set led by Nollywood heavyweight, Funke Akindele.
His revelation has sparked conversations about fair compensation and the treatment of up-and-coming entertainers in the industry.
Ijoba Lande, who shared his experience in a viral video, disclosed that he joined Akindele’s production team at Amen Estate with high hopes but without prior negotiation over his pay.
According to him, he was eager to work with the acclaimed actress and filmmaker, believing the opportunity would open doors to bigger prospects.
However, his expectations were shattered when he was handed a document upon arrival, allegedly stating that his monthly salary would be N90,000.
Despite his initial shock at the stated sum, Ijoba Lande signed the document, assuming that the arrangement would later be revised or improved.
However, by the end of the month, he was paid exactly what was written, with no additional benefits or bonuses.
Expressing his disappointment, he noted that his lack of formal education played a role in his decision to sign the agreement without proper scrutiny.
Using his experience as a lesson for aspiring creatives, the skit maker advised upcoming entertainers not to idolise established industry figures to the point of undervaluing themselves.
He warned that many veterans in the entertainment industry would exploit young talents if given the opportunity, urging his colleagues to negotiate their worth before engaging in any professional collaboration.
He said, “Aunty Funke Akindele, when I went to work for her for a whole month at Amen Estate. For a whole month, Funke Akindele did not give me 150,000. I swear by the name of Almighty God.
“The reason why I am saying this is for all you upcoming. Anybody that wants to use you, don’t see them as God.
“I will not lie; I was excited that I wanted to go and work with Aunty Funke, so I didn’t bother to charge her, so it won’t look like she won’t work with me again.
“When I got there, someone who introduced self as Wendy brought a document, and I was asked to sign. After reading, I saw that every month, I would be collecting 90,000, and I was already there. It is good to be educated. Had it been I am properly educated, I wouldn’t have signed it. At first, I thought it was nothing until the month ended and they paid me 90,000 for a whole month.“
