Actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele’s latest movie, Behind The Scenes, has officially become the highest-grossing film in West Africa, surpassing her own 2024 hit Everybody Loves Jenifa, which earned N1.8 billion in cinemas.

As of Monday, the film had raked in over N1.77 billion in less than four weeks, setting multiple records, including the highest single-day earnings on Boxing Day with N129.5 million.

Updating fans on Thursday, distribution company FilmOne wrote, “All hail the box office queen. Behind The Scenes has officially become the highest-grossing film of all time in West Africa. We are beyond proud. To every single person who bought a ticket, showed up, told a friend, and believed in this story … this win is because of YOU. Thank you for making cinema history with us.”

This milestone marks Akindele’s third film to cross the N1 billion mark.

Its success has been credited to strong audience turnout and strategic advanced screenings ahead of its nationwide release on December 12.

The movie boasts a star-studded cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, and Tobi Bakre.
