Funke Akindele’s ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Hits ₦1bn Box Office Record In 19 Days

Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele, has once again proven her dominance in the Nigerian film industry as her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, achieved an extraordinary milestone by grossing over ₦1 billion within just 19 days of release.

The record-breaking film, which has taken cinemas by storm, has become the fastest Nollywood movie to cross the ₦1 billion mark, further cementing Akindele’s position as the queen of the box office.

In a post on her social media handles on Monday, Akindele revealed that the film amassed a total of ₦1,034,091,220, making it the second Nollywood movie to achieve this feat in the last 12 months.

The movie’s success has dominated the December box office, accounting for an impressive 40% of total revenue with over 202,604 admissions recorded across cinemas nationwide.

Akindele, who directed and produced the movie, expressed her gratitude to her fans, saying, “God did! Thank you, Jenifans, for supporting Everybody Loves Jenifa! We couldn’t have gotten here without you.”

She encouraged her audience to keep watching, adding, “We’re excited for what’s to come with this massive win. Keep watching in all cinemas nationwide!”

The movie’s success is not confined to Nigeria alone. Eight days after its international debut on December 20, the film raked in $194,560 (approximately ₦300 million) from countries including the UK, US, and Canada, among others.

Everybody Loves Jenifa brings back the beloved character Jenifa, delivering a mix of humour, drama, and suspense that has captivated audiences both locally and internationally.

This latest achievement adds to Funke Akindele’s impressive record at the box office. Her previous film, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, remains the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, with over ₦1.5 billion in earnings.

Earlier this year, her film A Tribe Called Judah also shattered records, becoming the first Nollywood movie to gross ₦1 billion within 21 days.

With Everybody Loves Jenifa, Funke Akindele has now secured the top four highest-grossing Nollywood films, further solidifying her legacy as one of the most influential figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
