FUOYE Denies Viral Report On Alleged Plot To Unseat Governing Council Chairman, VC

The management of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, has dismissed a viral report alleging a plot by the institution’s Senate to remove the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

The university described the report, which was circulated by an online medium, as baseless and misleading, insisting that it was fabricated from a fake document that did not emanate from the Senate or any other authorised organ of the institution.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Mufutau Ibrahim, said the publication lacked credibility and was aimed at disparaging the integrity of the university’s leadership.

He said, “The management of FUOYE wishes to dissociate itself from the content of a publication released on 21st August, 2025, in which a medium mischievously attempted to undermine the persons and positions of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Ndoma-Egba, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina.

“The so-called report relied on a spurious press statement allegedly issued by nameless individuals through a document unsigned by anyone, which is contrary to the principles of journalism. At no point did the Senate indict the Pro-Chancellor or the Vice-Chancellor on recruitment or any other issue. It is also not in the tradition of the Senate of FUOYE to address the press after its meetings.”

The Registrar explained that the authority to issue statements on Senate decisions rested solely with his office, stressing that the viral document was “phony” and should be disregarded by members of the public.

He added, “The purported press statement did not emanate from FUOYE. Consequently, we urge the relevant security agencies to investigate the source of the fake document and bring the culprits to book.”

Also reacting, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, reaffirmed loyalty to the Pro-Chancellor, the Governing Council and the substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Shittu said, “The report is baseless and unfounded. It never originated from the Senate of the university and it has no connection with issues before the Senate. The Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor continue to enjoy the confidence of the university community.”

The management, therefore, appealed to staff, students and the general public to disregard the publication, describing it as a calculated attempt to sow discord within the institution.
