The students of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, on Monday shut down the institution to protest the 100% increase in their tuition by the school management.
The school management , OSUN DEFENDER learnt released a new fee schedule for the 2023/2024 academic session, last week.
The release by the management before school resumption showed that the tuition fees for freshers were raised from N108,000 to N240,000, while the fees for old students were raised from N29,000 to N131,000.
Following the increment, the students shut down the campus in a peaceful protest.
The protest also caused traffic jams on the Akure-Ilesha road, with some motorists forced to make a U-turn.
The spokesperson for the institution could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
