G-Wagon Debt: ‘You’re Not Debt Recovery Agency’, Adeyanju Knocks Police For Arresting, Detaining Portable

A Nigerian Lawyer and human right activist, Deji Adeyanju has berated the Nigeria Police Force for arresting and detaining Nigerian music artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable for over a car debt.

Osun Defender reports that Portable was arrested on Tuesday after he jumped a gate to evade arrest over alleged failure to pay the balance of a G-Wagon car he bought.

Adeyanji in a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, described the forceful arrest of Portable by the police as “an unnecessary show of force”.

He noted that the police do not have jurisdiction over civil disputes, such as debt recovery.

However, Deji tells Nigerian police to “return to its constitutional mandate and resist urge to dabble into all manner of civil disputes, while more pressing crimes goes uninvestigated.”
