Police detectives have reportedly intensified the search for the arrest of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.
Family sources told The Guardian that the chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, petitioned the Inspector General of Police for Dawakin-Tofa’s arrest.
Sources said the governor’s aide’s trouble with the APC chairman is linked to his controversial suspension from his Ganduje ward in Dawakin-Tofa local government of the state.
Ganduje, according to the family, accused the governor’s spokesperson, who is from his constituency, of orchestrating his political downfalls.
The family on Tuesday disclosed that a team of detectives mounted surveillance around the residence of Dawakin-Tofa on Monday as part of a ground move to carry out their assignment.
A family member who pleaded anonymity said police personnel ransacked the residence more than five times, scaring members of Dawakin-Tofa’s family, including the wife and children as well as creating apprehension in the neighborhood.

Meanwhile, there is an order of the court restraining the IGP, DSS, CP Kano, and other security agencies from arresting and or harassing the Dawakin-Tofa.
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of Kano State High Court on Thursday granted an exparte application, preventing the manhunt of Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa pending the hearing and determination of substantive matter on his fundamental rights slated for 22nd January 2025.
Sources said the animosity between Dawakin-Tofa and Ganduje dated nine years ago, specifically in 2015, when Ganduje, as governor-elect, allegedly ordered Dawakin-Tofa’s arrest over his opposition during the gubernatorial election.
Efforts to reach the police spokesperson were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to his phone were unanswered.
