Gas Tanker Crash Kills 12 Worshippers In Imo
Twelve members of the Jehovah’s Witness Church, including four children, were killed when a gas tanker crashed into their bus in Imo State on Wednesday.
The victims were travelling from Anambra State to Agwa village when the accident occurred.
The Imo State Police Command identified the tanker as T 16716 LA, marked with the inscription NUPENG. Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed that eight others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Divine Hospital, Awo-Omamma, while the deceased have been moved to Ogbaku Mortuary.
Okoye said, “Regrettably, twelve persons lost their lives in the accident, eight adults and four children, while eight persons were injured.
“Wreckage on the road has been cleared and free flow of traffic restored by a team of police personnel led by the Divisional Police Officer of Awo-Omamma in synergy with Road Safety personnel.”
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to avoid reckless behaviours, including driving against traffic.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash.
