‘God Will Reward Everyone’: Actress Abiola Adebayo Replies Critics Over Failed Marriage

Nollywood actress, Abiola Adebayo, has responded to criticism and ridicule from social media users following her public announcement of her marital separation, stating that she is human and did what she believed was necessary to protect her truth.

In a video that surfaced online and began trending on Tuesday night, the actress addressed the backlash she received after revealing the end of her marriage, insisting that she chose to speak publicly to prevent the spread of false narratives and misinterpretations about her personal life.

The actress disclosed that her estranged husband was aware of the announcement before she made it public, stressing that there was no element of betrayal as speculated by some commentators.

Speaking in a mix of English and Yoruba, she said, “I am human. The other time I posted about my marriage, it was because I didn’t want people to tell my story for me, yet you all used it against me. I told my husband before I posted, so he was aware of the post. He knows I am not what people say I am, but God will reward everyone.”

Adebayo confirmed that she and her husband had gone their separate ways since April 2024, but added that they had reached a mutual agreement to co-parent their son peacefully and maturely.

While acknowledging the disappointment her fans may feel over the development, the actress stated that she had hoped for a different outcome but was ultimately left with no choice but to prioritise her mental health and personal safety.

“It is better to be alive to tell the story,” she said, adding that public appearances can be deceptive, as she had endured many tearful nights behind closed doors despite appearing cheerful in the media.

She appealed to the public for understanding and prayers, particularly for her son and her family during what she described as a difficult period in her life.

“People forget that celebrities are also human. The pressure, the judgment, the assumptions — it is a lot. But I trust that God will continue to uphold me and my family,” she added.
