Gov. Adeleke Mourns Late Olubadan, Condoles With Makinde, Ibadan People
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing his demise as a monumental loss not only to Ibadan but to the entire Yoruba race.
Adeleke, in a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Monday, said the late monarch, despite a short reign, exemplified the finest qualities of traditional leadership, wisdom, humility, and a commitment to unity and cultural pride.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the Government and people of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the Royal Family of Ibadan.
He noted that Oba Olakulehin’s life was one of selfless service and calm leadership that elevated the traditional institution of Ibadanland.
“Oba Olakulehin was a monarch of profound wisdom and grace. Even within a brief reign, he embodied the virtues of Yoruba royalty, calm leadership, cultural pride, and unwavering love for his people,” Adeleke said.
The governor added that the passing of the revered monarch, who recently marked his 90th birthday, signalled the end of a noble chapter in the annals of Yoruba traditional rulership.
He described the late Olubadan as a symbol of continuity and royal honour whose memory will endure in the hearts of his people.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Osun State, I extend sincere condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Government of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the entire people of Ibadan,” the statement read in part.
Adeleke acknowledged the bond that exists among Yoruba monarchs, stressing that the loss of Oba Olakulehin resonates beyond the borders of Oyo State, touching the soul of the entire Yoruba nation.
He prayed for strength for the people of Ibadan and comfort for the Royal Family, urging them to take solace in the life of impact that the monarch lived.
“May God comfort the people of Ibadan and grant the late monarch eternal rest among his forebears,” the governor added.
