Gov Radda Suspends Reformatory Officials Over Inmate Torture
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has suspended key officials of the State Reformatory Centre, Babbar Ruga, following the torture of an inmate, Usman Musa, which led to the amputation of his left hand and severe injury to his right.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, confirmed the suspension of the centre’s Principal, Abdulzahir Abubakar; Vice Principal, Bala Abubakar; and a porter, Yunusa Yusuf, for their involvement in the incident.
The governor also approved the immediate dismissal of a casual staff member, Murtala Suleiman, who was implicated in the case.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the SSG, Abdullahi Yar’adua, the government’s action reflects its commitment to human rights, accountability, and institutional reform.
Governor Radda approved N970,000 for the victim’s medical treatment and N35 million for a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to aid his rehabilitation.
The governor also endorsed the committee’s recommendations to upgrade the reformatory centre to international standards.
The Special Adviser on Public Administration and Service Reforms, Alhaji Usman Isiyaku, who chaired the committee, has been directed to implement the reforms and ensure full compliance.
