The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has appointed himself as the commissioner for lands.
He stated this on Tuesday at the Government House in Owerri, during the swearing-in ceremony of his Commissioners and Special Advisers, SSAs, among others.
While explaining his reason for appointing himself as commissioner for lands, he said the self-appointment is a measure to prevent a repeat of past incidents.

He cited the example of a previous commissioner who was embroiled in controversial land deals towards the end of his first tenure.
According to him, “I have just performed my official duty of swearing in the members of executive council. I want to congratulate on your well deserved appointment. I want to tell you oath taking is a serious act that places a lot of responsibilities on you. Therefore the public will be watching you from now henceforth to conduct yourself in a most dignified manner only those who persevere will triumph.
“The appointment of those that will work with me is still ongoing, more appointments will be made and more swearing-in will be made. So, Imo expect a lot from you. I recall, during the retreat, I explained a lot of things expected of you and I warned you to stay off corruption that would destroy the image of this administration.
“I have set up a monitoring unit in my office to monitor your office and any score below average must be regarded as a failure. There will be quarterly performance assessment on you and there will be no excuses. We must leave a legacy of prominence. We will work harder than what we did in first term.
“For the Ministry of Lands, Uzodimma said: I will be in charge of the ministry lands that has caused a lot of confusion and corruption. We will sanitize the land system in Imo state.”
