The Governing Council of the Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun have suspended the provost of the college, Professor Jimoh Afolabi over alleged misappropriation.
In a letter signed by the council chairman, Peter Babalola, a copy obtained in Osogbo, the provost was asked to appear before the Council investigative panel on account of infractions levelled against him.
The letter read in part, “Please refer to the letter with Reference NO. OSSCE/LR/GCIP/001/1,
dated 3rd January 2024, inviting you to appear before the Governing
Council’s Investigative Panel on account of the various infractions levelled against you at the Council’s meeting held on Tuesday, 21st November 2023, following which a vote of no confidence was passed on you.
“Consequent on the above developments, Council, at its meeting of
Monday, 8th January 2023 considered the need to suspend you from exercising the functions of your office to allow for proper investigations into
the infractions levelled against you.
“Hinged on the above, and in accordance with Section 32.3 (a&b) of the
College Edict, you are hereby suspended from exercising the functions of your office pending the final determination of your case.”
Speaking with newsmen on Monday in Osogbo, Babalola accused the provost of concealing documents to frustrate the effort of the Governing Council.
He said the provost alongside the outgone Bursar of the college misappropriated the school funds and hindered the progress of the school.
He said, “The management of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun headed by Professor Jimoh Afolabi as the provost and the outgone Bursar were being alleged and are to face panel but they are trying to run to the press.
“He should make himself available to the panel. He has concealed a lot of things. They don’t want the progress of that school and it cannot be.
“Nobody is witch-hunting anybody. Let him go and face the panel. If he is Okay, fine and if he is not, no problem. Him throwing allegations when he is to face panel cannot work.
“He is the sole signatory to all the school accounts and he is being assisted by the Bursar and one nominee from the Bursary. The provost conceals a lot of things in order to frustrate the Council. He misappropriated the college fund.
“The school water factory was hired out by the provost and the person they gave it out to is paying N1m per annum. The college van was given to the person for use, the college driver who is being paid by the school is the one driving the van and the school money was being used to repair the van.”
