The state government should ensure strict compliance with rules and regulations for usage of Motor Park to ensure safety of lives as well as prevent unwarranted accident on roads.
This was the assertion of Comrade Kamoru Oyewole of Ayegbaju Motor Park in a chat with Osun Defender
He stated that the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola had improved on parks within Osogbo metropolis through the urban renewal programs which necessitated the relocation of famous Park to Ayegbaju’s Market which is accessible, spacious, safe and viable.
Comrade Oyewole said there is need for enforcement of rules and regulations and strict compliance to prevent commercial vehicles from picking passengers indiscriminately on the road side which is unsafe and at time causes accidents.
“Our relocation from Orita Olaiya is a blessing, but it is hard to change the orientation of the people as some commercial transporters still pick passengers on the road side which makes commuters defies usage of motor garage especially those situated along Gbongan/ Ibadan road.
“We appreciate this good gesture of the government but our motor parks still need conveniences, shaded parks, electricity and tarred or floored with pavement to make it of standard.
“On the drivers-commuter relationship, we are refined, as we handled our commuters with utmost care and respect, our vehicles are serviced as and when due, touts are not allowed in our motor park, passengers luggage are handled with care and the drivers in the units of the park are respectful.
Also Mr Adisa Elebuibon of Freedom Park motor parks said the urban renewal programme in the state capital had affected the motor parks and they are expecting the government to rehabilitate the parks as promised
He continued that Freedom Park motor parks is the Mother of all parks in Osogbo as it was established in the 40s.
He said its closeness to the rail line was an asset, but with the expansion and development in the city, it becomes obsolete and needs reconstruction.
At Okefia Motor Park, the chairman of the park Alhaji Ahmed Shittu said the garage is the offshoot of Olorunda Branch 1 situated at the Stadium area in Osogbo but lamented the poor funding of the motor parks.
He stated further that the park is strategic because of its location but vehicles in the motor park ply most rough roads in the state, which is the Agunbelewo/Ilobu/ Ifon axis, Iwo, Ejigbo, Oyo, Ogbomoso roads.
He continued that the state of the road had affected their vehicles but for the love of the citizens, we still ply these roads.
He, therefore, called on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to work on those roads, while calling on the state government to provide conveniences in parks across the state to prevent open defecation at the motor parks.
