Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed an immediate investigation into the reported invasion of Egbedi community in Egbedore local government area of Osun State by gunmen.

This was as the governor assured the people of Egbedi of the protection of lives and properties.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that gunmen attacked the community on Thursday evening, injuring at least six people, including two princes and a chief.

Following the incident, the Elegbedi of Egbedi, Oba Muideen Azeez alleged that the hoodlums who invaded the community were working with the backing of the Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal, to install a monarch on Egbedi land.

But the allegation was swiftly debunked by the media office of the Timi of Ede, noting that the king had nothing to do with the attack.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday, a copy obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, said the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters have been directed to investigate the incident and ensure restoration of peace in the area as urgently as possible.

The statement also said the allegation that the state government was involved in the attack was untrue, advising against politicising the unfortunate face-off.

The statement further reads, “The attention of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke has been drawn to a viral video and subsequent reported attacks on the town of Egbedi. The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters has been directed to investigate the incident and ensure the restoration of peace in the area as urgently as possible.

“The Governor frowned at the unwholesome incident and directed immediate action by the Commissioner and the Special Adviser to restore normalcy through inclusive conflict resolution procedure.

“Governor Adeleke particularly rejected the involvement of the state government and advised against politicising the unfortunate face-off.

“We should avoid politicising every incident. I have no gun-wielding appointee. I didn’t send anybody to foment communal crisis. We will get to the root of the matter,” the Governor was quoted as saying in the statement.

Governor Adeleke further assured the Elegbedi of Egbedi, Chiefs, sons, and daughters of the town that those responsible for the attacks would be brought to book.
