A former Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adejare Bello has warned politician across the country to desist from the habit of vote buying.

Bello revealed this to Osun Defender Reporter last weekend while speaking at a function in his Ede home town in the state.

He frowned at vote buying syndrome which has become rampant among electorates and money bag politics.

He said,  “I will advises that the electorate should not collect money for voting, they should be judged by their conscience”.

He observed that vote buying is a threat to democracy that could deprive the country of good governance despite number of years of democracy.

He urges Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] not to favour any political party during the forthcoming election in the state.

According to him,  “INEC should not in any way favour any political party if they do not want anarchy in the state”.

The former lawmaker advised all eligible voters to ensure that they discharged their civic responsibility by participating in the electoral process.

He added that money is good but good governance is better than money that is meant for short term.

He warned that the next gubernatorial election in the state should be violence-free for the state to maintain the most peaceful state it is known for in recent times.

Bello urged all relevant stakeholders to handle it with the spirit of sportsmanship rather than see it as do or die matters.
