OSUN State Government has threatened to take necessary disciplinary and legal action against dog owners over the incessant attacks on residents of the state.
The government said it has resolved to wage war against dog attacks on innocent residents, saying that anybody whose dog misbehaved would face full wrath of law.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in the state, Mr. Tola Faseru, read the riot act at a meeting held with dog breeders, owners and veterinarian at the ministry, on Wednesday.
Faseru particularly frowned at the rate at which unlicensed dogs roam about the streets, calling on owners and breeders to cage their dogs or be sanctioned.
He explained that it is now compulsory for all veterinary outfits to register with the state government, just as he directed that all dogs must get anti-rabies vaccination certificate which must be duly signed by a certified veterinarian.
Faseru expressed the state government’s condolence to the family of a dog attack in Ido-Osun, where dogs killed a five-month-old baby and injured the mother.
In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Osun State Agriculture Development Commission (OSADEC), Hon. Akanfe Atidade and Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Adegbemisola Fayoyin, enjoined owners and breeders to respect the feelings of other people in the society who do not love dogs.
The Director, Department of Veterinary Services of the ministry, Dr (Mrs) Olatokun also urged the dog owners and breeders to get anti-rabies vaccines which are available in all government veterinary clinics in the state free of charge.
