Govt Reveals Expansion Plan As 2,000 Passengers Benefit From Osun Free Train

The Osun State Government has revealed plans to expand its free train services to accommodate more people who may want to cime imto the state.

The government made the revelation on Wednesday while bidding farewell to beneciaries of the free train services back to their destinations.

Speaking on the number of beneficiaries from the Sallah ride, the state government said about 2,000 passengers returning to the state to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir benefited from its free train services.

The State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, while receiving the holidaymakers into the state on Saturday, urged them to leverage the opportunity of their visit and inspect some of the ongoing projects initiated by his administration across the state.

The free train which left Lagos earlier had arrived at Osogbo Railway Station around 9:15 pm with several passengers on board into the waiting arms of the officials of the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the ministry in charge of the programme.

Answering questions from journalists shortly after recieving the holidaymakers into the state, Adeleke urged them to feel safe and enjoy the Eid celebration.

Bidding the holidaymakers bye on the return journey to Lagos on Wednesday, Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Bunmi Jenyo, said through the free train services, the Adeleke administration has put back in the pockets of the beneficiaries over N30 million that could have been spent on transportation from Lagos to various parts of the state.

The free train services was introduced in year 2011 by the administration of fomer Governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

Under the programme, holidaymakers returning to Osun are provided free rail transportation from Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States back to the state during the festive period.

The holidaymakers also enjoy the services free of charge on their return journey to their various destinations after each festival.
