Nigerians who are blessed financially have been called upon to support education to give indigent students a headstart in life and drastically reduce the growing number of out-of-school children in the country.
This appeal was given by Alhaji Sulaiman Afariogun, Chairman of the Parents/Teachers Association of Olutimehin Grammar School, Osogbo during the presentation of a N250,000 cheque to the school on Monday by Kunle Buraimoh Foundation.
Afariogun commended the foundation for supporting 100 students with the funds to pay for their Unified State Examination.
He noted that the Olutimehin family after which the school was named has given tremendous support to the students to ensure that they experience a conducive learning environment.
“It was Chief Jimoh Buraimoh, the father of the promoter of the K. B. Foundation, that fought for the naming of the school Olutimehin Grammar School in honour of their progenitor. Aside from this support they are giving today, they have bought a power generator for the school before. I can only commend them so that they can do more because there is a reward before God for doing good.” He noted.
The Chairman enjoined the students to take full advantage of the kind gesture of the foundation that is determined to see that they complete their basic education, noting that if there had been financial support like this during his own time, he would have gone far in his educational attainment.
Spokesperson of the K.B. Foundation, Toyin Ajayi, described the promoter of the Foundation, who is a professor of Cyber security, as someone passionate about the development of education in the country.
In her words, “Kunle Buraimoh is a destiny helper and a genuine believer in access to education by all, irrespective of their parental background. He is a professor of cybersecurity based abroad but is interested in keeping indigent students in school to prevent them from being left behind by their peers because their parents could not afford the payment of examination fees.” She said.
Ajayi charged the students to take their studies seriously, so that in the nearest future they can achieve their dreams in life and be in a situation to help others like the promoter of the Foundation is doing.
Since its launch last year, she observed that “the caring hands of the Foundation has been extended to schools like St. Francis Grammar School Osogbo, African Church Primary School Osogbo, Salvation Army Primary School Osogbo, Baptist Primary School Ifon Orolu where over 300 students have benefitted from the distribution of school uniforms, school bags, and writing materials”. She stated
She further revealed that aside from supporting education, the K.B. Foundation is also supporting the arts. ” The Foundation is also providing support for the arts and artists. “In the month of August during the Osun Osogbo festival, the Foundation will stage an awards night where veteran artists will be honoured and shall be given monetary rewards”.
Registrar of the school, Abosede Awe, in her closing remarks praised Kunle Buraimoh for his love for humanity and concern for the upliftment of the poor through education.
“I commend the K.B. Foundation for consistently supporting humanitarian causes and its strong resolve to uplift these poor kids through education. This intervention is impactful because it has prevented these kids from dropping out of school. It has also kept hope alive for them that if they face their studies and excel, tomorrow is very bright for them too. I pray that God will continue to sustain and enlarge the coast of Kunle Buraimoh Foundation.”
