Yobe State Governor, Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe on Monday approved N252.9 million for payment of gratuity to 141 retired and deceased civil servants who retired or died between January and March this year.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Abdullahi Bego, the Director-General, Media Affairs to the governor stating that the amount also included five-year pension to the next of kin of the affected deceased civil servants.
He added that a Gratuity Verification Committee set up by the governor was already working on payment for retirees and deceased who retired or died between April 2018 and August 2018.
Gov. Gaidam had earlier during the swearing in of Alhaji Usman Maraya, the new Head of Service, said that the state was in healthy financial position with over N40 billion in its accounts.
He said the state had N15.5 billion Paris club refund, N19 billion in the state account and N6.4 billion in the local government joint account.
The governor also assured that his administration would leave no liability to his successor in 2019 because the state government had not borrowed any facility from any financial institution or organisation.
