Komolafe Oluwayomi, a 45-year-old staff of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has been dragged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court over alleged fraudulent scheme to siphon N9,989,000 from the bank.
This was followed by a thorough investigation led by Inspector Patience Eguabor, who apprehended and charged the suspect with conspiracy and stealing, according to Securitymonitor.
The Police Prosecutor, Counsel Ben Ekundayo, explained that the suspect exploited his position as the officer in charge of processing drivers’ retirement benefits.
He explained that Oluwayomi allegedly manipulated the payroll system, adding his friend’s name and account number to the list of beneficiaries.
He further explained that the suspect then transferred N9,989,000 into his friend’s account, subsequently moving the funds into his own GTBank account for personal use.
Osun Defender reports that the fraudulent activity was uncovered during an internal audit of the retirement payroll accounts.

When the count charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
While ruling, Magistrate M.A. Owunmi granted Oluwayomi bail set at N2 million, requiring two sureties of the same amount.
The Magistrate ordered that Oluwayomi will remain in custody at the Ikoyi correctional facility until the bail conditions are met.
